Abstract
109,089. Snell, H. de M. Aug. 29, 1916. Driving - arrangements for screw propellers; detachable propelling - installations.-A detachable power-producing unit mounted on a removable platform A and comprising motors A<1>, such as internalccmbustion engines, and dynamos A<2>, supplies electric current to propelling- motors B<2> fixed in the vessel. The platform is attached by bolts a and centred by a conical spigot and socket b and a wedge member a<1>. The platform may be floated on and off by a suitably - shaped pontoon. Alternatively, the platform may have attached caissons depending therefrom, one on each side of the vessel. These may also be fitted with electric motors and propellers to supplement the propulsion. The current produced on the platform may, in addition, be supplied to other vessels having electric propelling-means, but not provided with the detachable platforms. Vessels with the power-unit platform removed may receive current from power rails or wires on the banks of canals or other watercourses.
