Abstract

Mats are made by screen printing one or more layers of a thermoplastic plastisol, of e.g. PVC or polythene, over discrete areas of a flat matt surfaced support, applying an overall backing layer, either as a plastisol or as a preformed layer, or as both in combination, heating the composite thus formed to gell and bond it, and finally removing the finished mat from the support. The plastisols used for the screen printing may have a lower plasticizer content than that used for the backing thus giving a mat with a hard decorative upper surface and a soft non slip undersurface. The preformed layer may be a foam polyester, polyether, or polyurethene.
