Abstract

A layer of weldable textile material is covered with a layer of synthetic foam cushioning backed by a lining sheet which can be welded to the textile layer to trap the intervening foam not only around its boundaries but also along weld contacts formed by sufficient local compression and heating of the foam to bond the two outer layers. Esp. suitable for covers for automobile seats with undulating padded panels offering more support and grip than a smooth uniform structure. Pref. the lining material has an anti skid surface texture and is perforated to allow ventilation of the core. A PVC liner may be used to anchor a PVC or polyurethane foam in multiple pockets against a cover of e.g. jersey weave fabric made of polyamide fibres.
