Abstract

Patterened mats are formed by applying a dispersion of a thermoplastic resin to discrete areas of a foamed plastics substrate and then heating the assembly to gel the dispersion and bond it to the substrate. The dispersion is preferably of a polyvinyl chloride and is of a different colour to the substrate and may be applied by screen printing. The foamed substrate may be polyurethane polyester, or polyether foam. In the example given a dispersion of P.V.C. is applied to a smooth glass surface and a flexible foamed layer adhered thereto and the whole heated. One or more P.V.C. dispersions are then screen printed onto the foamed layer and the whole assembly heated again to bond the layers which are then stripped from the substrate.
