1279846 Layered extrusion ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 24 June 1969 31827/69 Heading B5A [Also in Division B6] An extruded, elongated, multiple layer plastics moulding strip 22, includes a base 24 of rigid plastics material having a hardness of 100 or more on a durometer scale e.g. a pigmented vinyl resin or polystyrene and a relatively thin heat sealable attachment layer 26 fused to said base, the attachment layer being composed of plastics material which has a hardness of 65 to 75 on a durometer scale and which melts at a temperature at which the base remains in a non-liquid state e.g. a vinyl resin. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 a metal channel or cover 28 is placed upon the strip 22 leaving the layer 26 exposed. The strip is shown as being fused by the layer 26 to an automobile door panel comprising a backing member 16 e.g. of fibreboard, a resilient cushioning layer 18 e.g. a polyurethane foam impregnated with a vinyl resin or a rubberized or plastics coated fibrous material and a relatively thin heat sealable plastics layer e.g. of a vinyl resin, the strip being dielectrically fused to the panel by electrodes 32. In a further embodiment, a polyester coating replaces the metal channel or cover, the exposed surface of the coating being metallized. In other embodiments the cover is omitted as the attachment layer comprises a plurality of strips. Other plastics materials which may be used in the strips are acrylic resins, cellulose acetate butyrate or polyethylene.
