Abstract
1,090,004. Treating cellulose triacetate materials. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 26, 1966 [Feb. 1, 1965], No. 4304/65. Heading B5B. Cellulose triacetate textile materials, e.g. yarns and woven and knitted fabrics, are rendered antistatic and soil resistant and given improved resistance to glazing and stiffening when subjected to ironing or other dry-heat treatments, by continuously padding them through an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium hydroxide and then subjecting them to the action of superheated steam at atmospheric pressure in a steamer which is capable of allowing the continuous passage of the textile materials. The solution may contain 5-7% by weight of sodium hydroxide or 8-10% by weight of potassium hydroxide. The superheated steam may be at 120-150‹ C. and steaming may be effected for 1-2 minutes. The treated materials may then be washed and treated with an aqueous solution of a volatile acid, e.g. acetic acid, and dried. Materials comprising cellulose triacetate fibres alone or in admixture with natural cellulose, regenerated cellulose, polyamide or polyester fibres may be treated.
