A device for fitting a window pane 16, Fig. 1, surrounded by a sealing strip 16' provided with means such as channel 16" and beading 15 on the frame 2 for locating the strip in the window frame 2 of a car body comprises pressure cylinders 6, 7, Fig. 5, mounted fixedly or pivotably on pivotable arms 5 of a frame 1 adjustable to the car body the pistons 9 being connected through ball joints 11 to a pressure plate 12 which presses on the window pane when compressed air controlled from a valve preferably located within the car body is fed to the cylinders 6, 7 firstly at a lower pressure while the wall of channel 16" is lifted over the beading 15, all around the periphery of the pane, and secondly at increased pressure to press the pane home in the frames. A compression spring 10 inserted between the plate 12 and the cylinder compensates for the inertia of the piston in the cylinder in the working range. The cylinders may exert different pressures and the two operating cylinders are synchronized with each other.
