Abstract

1,119,811. Angular bending. J. CHAMBERS, J. S. CANTRILL, J. B. SULLY, and J. P. CHANDLER. 4 May, 1967 [4 Feb., 1966], No. 4939/66. Heading B3E. A bending machine has a blade 3 adapted to engage a plate 64 to be bent and define a fold line thereon, two pivotally mounted formers 4 for movement to bend the plate about the fold line around the edge of the blade 3, and a piston and cylinder assembly 14 connected both to the blade 3 and to the formers 4 and operative to produce movement of both of blade and formers. The formers 4 are carried by brackets 12 on pins 13 pivotally mounted in fixed brackets 7. The blade 3 is carried by plates 26, 27 secured to plates 19 carrying cylinders 15, the cylinders being connected by links 23 to fixed vertical plates 25 so that they may be moved from the lowered position shown to a position above fixed plates 6. The lower end of a piston-rod 28 in each cylinder 15 is connected by pivoted links 34 to the brackets 12 carrying the formers 4. In operation, fluid pressure applied to the lower ends of raised cylinders 15 first causes the cylinders and thus the blade 3 to descend, the blade forming a fold line on the plate 64, and then, when movement of the cylinders 15 is stopped by the plates 6, causes the pistons 28 to rise and swing the formers 4 to bend up the plate 64 about the blade 3. A microswitch 48 or a bracket 7 is actuated by an adjustable striker 49 on a pivot-pin 13 to stop the bending. The piston and cylinder assemblies are doubleacting.
