1448690 Feeding sheets in presses TRIDAN TOOL & MACHINE Inc 20 Dec 1973 17264/75 Divided out of 1448688 Heading B3W A press includes a device for feeding sheet through the press comprising a feed bar 86, Fig. 4, carrying spring loaded feed fingers 91 and slidable in the feed direction along a track such as rods 85 by means of a link 87 pivoted to an arm 82 depending from the press platen 28. The feed bar is preferably connected to the platen by an arm and a link at each end. A fixed bar 83 carries spring loaded fingers 93 for holding the sheet against retraction when, on the up stroke of the platen, the feed bar retracts. For feeding during both the up and down strokes of the platen, the fixed bar is replaced by a movable bar 35, Fig. 1, mounted similarly to the bar 86 but for movement in the opposite direction. The spring loaded fingers on bars 34, 35 engage in collared holes 29 formed in the sheet by dies 26 and have bevelled upper faces, Fig. 5 (not shown), so that while they are inoperative the sheet depresses them into their housings. A pressure plate 57 forces the sheet 22 down to enable the fingers to enter the holes. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 6, one bar 102 is connected to the platen by an arm 101 and the other, 114, by the piston-rod 110 of a double acting air cylinder 109. With the piston-rod retracted, the feed bars 102 and 114 operate in the same way as the feed bars 34, 35. With the rod extended, a stop 115 limits downward movement of a plate 111 forming part of the linkage between the piston-rod and the feed bar and supply of air to the upper side of the piston during the up stroke of the platen will cause the feed bar to remain stationary during that stroke.
