Abstract

1394626 Presses U S BAIRD CORP 25 June 1973 [12 April 1973] 30075/73 Heading B3H A press head of a multi-stage fabricating machine operating on continuous stock 16 comprises a housing 48 in which a press ram 50 is slidable under the actuation of a toggle linkage 52 whose knuckle joint 60 engages a cam 56 whose pressure is transmitted to the ram and to the housing. The toggle linkage comprises a drive link 62 and a crank link 64 pivoted to the ram at 88, and the housing at 68 respectively. The crank link 64 forms one leg 98 of a bell-crank lever whose other leg 104 has a cam follower 102 engaging a retraction cam 58 to move the toggle to its buckled position. The stroke of the ram 50 is adjustable by a wedge 92. The ram has a die holder 36 and co-operates with a fixed plate 32 with a further die holder 36 The housing 48 is connected to the fixed plate 32 by a bridge piece 34. The ram slides on a dovetail slot 72 in the housing.
