Abstract
1511681 Hydraulic reciprocating motors BRITISH LELY Ltd 23 May 1975 [3 May 1975] 18611/75 Heading F1A An hydraulic ram mechanism comprises a doubleacting ram 1, a reversing valve 5 for directing the output of a pump 7 alternately to lines 3, 4 connected, respectively, to the lower and upper ram chambers, and a pressure relief valve 14 arranged to open when the pump delivery pressure rises at the end of the ram's downward stroke and thereby direct the output of the pump 7 through lines 13, 16 to a piston and cylinder actuator 17, the operation of the latter causing changeover of the valve 5. Reciprocation is initiated by withdrawing a catch 18 so that a spring 22 moves the valve 5 from its neutral position to its downward position. The resulting downward stroke of the ram 1 allows a spring 23 to changeover a valve 11 and thereby disconnect the pump delivery lines 6, 13, 15 from a tank 9. After subsequent changeover of the valve 5 as previously described, the ram 1 performs an upward stroke until a piston-rod 1 A thereof returns the valve 11 and thus connects the lines 15, 16 downstream of the relief valve 14 to the tank 9. This de-actuates the actuator 17 whereby the valve 5 changes over and the cycle is repeated. Reengagement of the catch 18 causes the ram 1 to stop in its upper position. A manually operable cam 20 is arranged to co-operate with the valve 11 to enable the ram 1 to be stopped elsewhere in its cycle.
