Abstract

1,089,669. Hydraulic jacks. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. July 29, 1966 [Aug. 6, 1965], No. 33799/65. Heading B8J. A jacking system for an off - shore self - elevating platform 2 is provided with fail-safe jacks 10 incorporating an interference fit lock section 12 between actuator rod 28 and interface 35 as described and claimed in Specification 1,053,749. The rod 28 is only freed for movement when pressure is applied through port 55. The platform 2 has a spud 4 at each corner and each spud 4 comprises three legs 5 interconnected by structural arrangements 6. Each leg 5 has a jacking assembly which comprises two jacks 10 spaced on opposite sides of the leg 5, Fig. 3 (not shown), connected by upper and lower yokes 38, 26, respectively. Each jack 10 is provided with a latchlink 20 connected to a common trunnion 22 mounted on the platform 2. Pins 33 on upper yoke 38 and pins 32 on lower yoke 26 engage notches 34 on jacking bars 36. The movement of each jack 10 to effect travel of the yokes 26, 38 relative to the associated leg 5 such that the pins 32, 33 can be moved into and out of engagement with selected pairs of laterally spaced notches 34 is shown in Figs. 4, 5. A double-acting hydraulic actuator 42 is pivoted between a plate 46 of trunnion 22 carried by the platform 2 and with it coacts a spring capsule 50 with switches 84, 88 to indicate that the pins 33 are respectively seated in or clear of the notches 34. Actuator 62 coacting with spring capsule 74 with switches 86, 90 acts similarly on pins 32. Successive stages in raising the platform 2 are shown in Fig. 5, the jacks 10 acting in compression. A platform may be supported on single legs, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the jacks may act in tension, Fig. 6 (not shown).
