Abstract

1,089,255. Cooling pistons. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. March 23, 1965 [April 16, 1964], No. 12335/65. Heading F2T. A piston is cooled by spraying and splashing liquid coolant, e.g. oil, against the underside of the piston head 1, the liquid being sprayed under pressure through bores 6 and 7 having their outlets above the splash liquid level 15 and being directed at an angle which deviates slightly from the normal to the sprayed surface. Oil is supplied to the bores 6 and 7, which are formed in inserts 8 and 9 respectively, through chambers 12 and 14 and returns through radial grooves 10 in the inserts and an outlet bore 11 in the piston rod 3.
