Abstract

1,088,809. Automatic voltage control. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept.2, 1966 [Sept. 2, 1965], No.39315/66. Heading G3R. A load 9a is supplied from an A. C. source by way of an auto-transformer the winding of which is associated as shown with a controllable impedance constituted by a tuned circuit 5a, 6a and controlled rectifiers 7a, 8a. When the rectifiers are triggered to conduct continuously the tuned circuit is short-circuited so that the controllable impedance is zero and the load has the maximum percentage of the A. C. supply voltage applied across it; as the rectifiers are triggered later in the voltage cycle oscillatory currents build up in the tuned circuit with the result that the effective impedance and voltage across the controllable impedance increase and the output voltage decreases. The circuit 10a for the controlled rectifiers 7a, 8a produces triggering pulses in dependence upon output voltage variations, whereby the voltage across the load is maintained constant, and a suitable arrangement for the triggering circuit is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown).
