1,086,711. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Jan. 15, 1965 [Jan. 17, 1964], No. 2253/64. Heading B8N. Apparatus for controlling the quantity of a mixture of liquids in a container 1 comprises means 25, 26 operative at a lower level of the mixture and adapted to cause an inlet valve 16 to open and effect infusion of the component liquids of the mixture, and further means 12, 14 operative at a higher level of the mixture and adapted to close the inlet valve means. The container 1 is divided into two compartments 2, 3, for containing soluble oil and a mixture of soluble oil and water respectively. A valve 25 actuated by a float 26 is mounted in the compartment 2 and is connected by a conduit 24 to a chamber 5 in which is mounted a float 12 for controlling an inlet valve 16 in a pressurized-water supply pipe 17; the supply pipe is connected to an infuser pipe 21 located in the oil compartment 3. In operation, when the mixture of oil and water has dropped to the low level shown, the float 26 drops thereby opening the valve 25 so as to drain the chamber 5 and allow the float 12 to drop. The pressurized-water valve 16 is then opened via a lever 14, 18 and, by the water flowing over the infuser pipe 21, oil is raised from the compartment 3 so that the compartment 2 is gradually filled with the oil/water mixture. When the level of the mixture reaches the high level shown, the mixture flows via a pipe 23 into the chamber 5 thereby causing the float 12 to rise and shut the inlet valve 16.
