Joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer pipe compressed.-In hose couplings of the type described in Specification 1219/86, in which the hose d is passed over a tubular nozzle a having a bulbous or tapering enlargement c at one or both ends and is clamped by means of a ring e<1> passed over-the end of the end of the hose, the maximum external diameter of the enlargement is made substantially greater than the internal diameter of the hose, and the ring has an internal diameter approximately equal to or slightly less than the external diameter of the hose. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the connecting-piece a has an enlargement c at each end, and a chain g passing through an eye h on the connecting-piece prevents loss of the rings c<1>. In other constructions, two nozzle-pieces are connected by a screwthreaded connexion or by means of a union-nut. the nozzles in the latter case being surrounded by rotatable coupling-sleeves.
