Abstract
3051. Rudolph, C. Feb. 8. Overlap joints with yielding outer sleeve compressed; overlap joints with divided sleeve; sleeve joints. - Railway-vehicle pipe couplings are connected to flexible metallic pipes by means of a metal sleeve having a cylindrical portion secured inside the pipe, and a conical portion to receive the spigot of the coupling, the whole being rendered fluid-tight by a rubber sleeve. The cylindrical portion 3 of the metal sleeve, Fig. 1, is secured between spring 5 and the flexible metal pipe 2 by soldering or other means; the conical portion 4 receives the spigot 6 of the coupling. The rubber sleeve 11 and the external metal sleeve 7, soldered to the pipe at 8 and having slots 9, are gripped on the spigot by the collar 10. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the rubber sleeve 12 is made thicker and is screwed on to the pipe, being gripped by the collar 13 and clasp 14.
