Abstract

A permitted explosive in powder form comprises a liquid explosive nitric acid ester, an inorganic oxidizing salt, a finely-divided water-insoluble inert substance which is non-wettable by the liquid explosive, and, if desired, an hydrophilic colloid and a surface-active agent. The inert substance may be alumina, silica, aluminium or calcium silicate, or calcium carbonate, and is treated with a metal soap, e.g. zinc or calcium stearate, or with a long chain fatty amine or a salt thereof; alternatively methylated silicic acid may be used as the inert substance. In examples, other ingredients of the explosives are nitroglycerine, nitroglycol, potassium nitrate, ammonium chloride, and guar flour. The storability of the explosive is improved without any deterioration of explosive properties.
