882,555. Explosive compositions. DE WILDE, P. R., and SOC. SUISSE DES EXPLOSIFS. April 11, 1960 [July 13, 1959; Oct. 23, 1959], No. 12883/60. Class 9(2). A plastic explosive comprises 8-25% by weight of a solid explosive substance of great detonative velocity finely dispersed in a doughlike mass consisting of an inorganic nitrate selected from the group consisting of ammonium, alkali metal and alkaline earth metal nitrates; at least one alkylamine nitrate; a minor amount of a water-soluble jellifying agent and 5 to 15% by weight of water. The solid explosive is preferably nitropentaerythrite or hexogen, and the inorganic nitrate may be ammonium nitrate to which mono-, di- or tri-ethanolamine nitrate may be added in smaller proportion. The jellifying agent may be carob bean extract or a glucoside or pectin. Aluminium powder may also be added.
