1,084,691. Apparatus for drawing artificial filaments. MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER A.G. Sept. 18, 1964 [Sept. 18, 1963], No. 38223/64. Heading B6B. In apparatus for drawing artificial filaments by means of feed and draw rolls (which may be internally heated) the draw rolls, or both the feed and draw rolls, are surrounded by a stationary housing. The housing or casing may also enclose a stationary means for heating the thread during its travel from the feed to the draw rolls. The housing may be provided with apertures for the entry and egress of the thread, the apertures having sealing means permitting the ready passage of the thread through the apertures but minimizing the exchange of air or other gas between the interior and exterior of the housing. The housing may be provided with means for introducing a gas or vapour into the interior of the housing for conditioning the atmosphere therein and means for withdrawing said gas or vapour from the interior of the housing. The housing may consist of a number of parts, at least one of which is movable relatively to the other parts for temporarily opening the housing and providing access to the rolls. The apparatus may be provided with a row of drawing zones operating in parallel and each provided with a housing having a movable part for opening the housing and these may be provided with means for simultaneously actuating the movable parts of the housings to open the housings simultaneously, the actuating means including means affording individual movement of the movable parts for individually opening the housing means. The movable part of the or each housing means may be connected to a valve which stops the supply of air conditioning medium into the interior of the housing when the latter is opened and resumes the supply when the latter is closed.
