Abstract
1,084,266. Actuation of switches. W. HOLZER. Dec. 3, 1964 [Dec. 3, 1963], No. 49253/64. Heading H2B. [Also in Division F2] Planetary reduction gearing for switching and/or indicating apparatus, particularly in washing-machines, comprises a stepped or, as shown, uniform planet 3 meshing two internal gears 6, 4 having different numbers of teeth, and being formed respectively on a dished wheel 7 and a casing 5 which also serves as a bearing for the dished wheel. The casing may be fixed and the dished wheel 7 driven or vice versa. As shown, the casing 5 is fast with a driving motor 1 and the dished wheel 7 is connected to an electric switch cam 13. In Fig. 2 (not shown), four trains are arranged in series; the stepped planets of the first three trains mesh suns and the stepped planet of the final train is mounted on an eccentric; a fixed casing provides a common internal gear; and the dished wheels of the second, third and fourth trains are connected to nested, parallel output, shafts. A gear of this type may drive the hour, minute and second hands of a clock. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the planets are uniform or stepped; the casing is stepped to provide dished wheel guide shoulders and different diameter internal gears for trains in series; and the final dished wheel carries facial or peripheral switch cams or external output drive teeth. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the drive to the gear is taken, through a flexible shaft, from the motor of a washing- machine; driven cams actuate switch contacts (e.g. for reversing) in the circuit of the motor; and a friction slipping coupling is provided between the final dished wheel and the cams so that the circuit may be manually controlled by means of a rotary knob. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the casing is apertured to provide access to peripheral cam notches on the dished wheels of one or more trains, and concentric drive shafts may carry indicating pointers. In Fig. 7 (not shown), the shaft of one of the dished wheels is fixed and cams are provided on, or are integral with, a driven casing. In Fig. 8, the dished wheels of a parallel two-train gearing are fixed and two driven casings respectively carry switch cams and external output drive teeth. A planet and a meshing sun may (Fig. 6, not shown), be provided with pitch circle diameter rolling shrouds. The casing may be a pressing. The casing may be liquid proof so that lubrication, and liquid suspension of the elements of a vertical axis gearing, may be provided. Some or all of the components may be of wear-resistant plastics material. The components may be pressure-moulded.
