Abstract

998,890. Time switches. HORSTMANN GEAR CO. Ltd. Feb. 11, 1964 [March 15, 1963], No. 10319/63. Heading H2B. An adjustable tappet arrangement for a time switch of the type wherein a dial 2 rotated by a synchronous motor or clockwork is visible through a transparent cover 1, comprises a shaft 11 keyed by a projection 12 to the hollow dial shaft 2b and fixedly carrying a gearwheel 13. A second gear-wheel 14 of the same diameter but slightly different number of teeth, is rotatable on shaft 11 and has secured to it the adjustable tappet 4. A planet pinion 15 meshing with both gear-wheels 13 and 14 is rotatably mounted on an arm 17 which is rotatably supported on shaft 11. Rotation of a knob 6 (after depression against spring 8) causes an arm 9 to engage a pin 16 and rotate arm 17, thereby rolling pinion 15 around the gears 13 and 14 with resulting reduction drive to the tappet 4, which is thus adjustable between limits set by stops fixed on to dial 2 (Fig. 1, not shown). Back pressure due to tappet 4 contacting switch mechanism (not described) does not move the pinion 15 due to the high reverse gear ratio. Arm 9 is mounted on shaft 7 by means of a friction clutch such that manipulation of knob 6 cannot interfere with the time drive of dial 2.
