Abstract
930,516. Washing-machines. CHAMBERLAIN & HOOKHAM. Jan. 24, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1961], No. 4661/61. Class 138 (2). [Also in Groups XVIII and XXIX] A washing-machine includes a process timer comprising two electric motors 17, 18 (Fig. 1) connected through a variable speed epicyclic gearing 16 to a pawl-and-ratchet mechanism which drives at least one cam 11. In the first embodiment the gearing 16 comprises two input pinions 19, 20 driven respectively by electric motors 17, 18. The pinion 19 is connected through gearing to a sun-wheel 25 of a epicyclic train, the other sun-wheel 28 of which is driven by pinion 21. Intermeshing planetary pinions 29, 30 are mounted in a cage 31 connected through gearing 32, 33 to an output pinion 34 which drives a gear 35 fixed to a cam 15 which actuates a pawl driving a ratchet-wheel 14 fixed to a shaft 13 on which is mounted a barrel 12 carrying cams 11. The cams 11 actuate a series of switches or valves to control the cycle of operations of the washing-machine. In the second embodiment the epicyclic gear train comprises one sun-wheel driven by one of the electric motors and an internally and externally toothed ring driven by the other motor, the planetary gears being connected to the output gears (Fig. 4, not shown).
