Abstract

For use in a steel-casting mould (see Division B3) an aluminothermic lining has on its metal-contacting surface a coating containing titanium metal or compound. Oxidizing agents, refractory fillers, simple or complex fluorides (to facilitate burning) and binders are specified for the lining composition and Specification 627,678 is referred to. TiO2, ilmenite or a titano-fluoride or a halide, carbide or sulphate of titanium is applied to a lining of the aluminothermic composition as a paint or slurry to be dried out and contains a binder and refractory in water or isopropyl alcohol.
