1,083,147. Tines with grippers. BASON & SONS Ltd. May 13, 1966 [May 6, 1965], No. 19068/65. Headings B8C and B8H. Apparatus for handling bricks or similar articles comprises a gripper head 5, mounting a plurality of inflatable tines 14, suspended from a carriage (not shown) for vertical and horizontal movement and rotation about the vertical axis. The gripper head 5 comprises a pair of side frames 6 interconnected at their upper edge by cross-bars 7, 8, 9, and a subframe 12 pivotally mounted at their lower edge, for rotation about a horizontal axis. The sub-frame 12 comprising a pair of rigid tines 13 at the sides thereof and a plurality of parallel inflatable tines 14 equally spaced therebetween and each held at their upper and lower edges by a pair of longitudinally extending bars 15. A pair of bolts 18 pneumatically movable by bell crank 22 and pneumatic ram 19 extend through a side frame 6 and engage the sub-frame 12 looking the same in a horizontal position. Upon retrieval of the bolts 18 the sub-frame 12 may be rotated through 180 degrees about a pair of trunnions 11 by a pneumatic ram 26 engaging one run of an endless chain 23 extending around a sprocket 25 attached to the gripper head and a sprocket 24 attached to one of the trunnions 11.
