A pair of detachable legs for a table or chair comprise a pair of mild steel rods or strips (10, 12) (Fig. 1, not shown) bent to inverted U-shape and welded together at their ends (14, 16), a cross-member 20, 22 of each U being sprung into leg-receiving surfaces 36, 38 on a sheet metal bracket 26 screwed to the table top 30. An upward extension of the rod 10 forms an end rest for the top or a support for a cantilever shelf (Fig. 5) and, in further modifications, the pair of legs is bent up from a single rod or strip, or the cross-members are more widely spaced than the leg-receiving surfaces the rods 10, 12 being flexed when the cross-members are fastened thereto.
