Abstract
1,027,049. Furniture joints; shelving. WILLIAM FIRTH & CO. Ltd. March 21, 1963 [Oct. 18, 1962], No. 11330/63. Headings A4B and A4W. A shelving structure is formed of steel bars, as at 25, 32, 33, 34, 42, each comprising two mutually perpendicular sides 1, 2 having inturned and out-turned rims 3, 4 respectively held together in abutment by brackets, as at 26, 27, 35, 36, 41, having at least two arms 5, 5a and 6, 6a having similar L-shaped sections, the arms being held to the bars by holding means, such as sleeves 28, 29, 37, 38, 39 or spring clips 43. Figure 9 depicts two brackets 26, 27 secured to a vertical bar 25 by sleeves 28, 29 which engage over the rims 3, 4 and are securely held by screws 30, 31 extending through threaded holes in the sleeves into the junctions of the rims 3, 4 with the sides 1, 2. Figure 10 shows a joint at which two horrizontal bars 32, 34 are secured to a vertical bar 33 by two brackets 35, 36 and three sleeves 37, 38, 39. Alternatively, the two brackets 35, 36 may comprise a single bracket having three arms. A smaller bracket 41 (Fig. 12) is secured to a bar 42 by a spring clip 43 which engages round the rim 4, the bracket 41 being held in the bar 42 between the spring arm 18 of the clip and the rim 3 and being prevented from tipping by a flange 21 on the spring arm 18. Shelves 46 (Fig. 14) are adjustably supported on the structure of bars 45 either at their corners or along their edges.
