Abstract

1,081,531. Feeding webs. BELOIT EASTERN CORPORATION. Jan. 29, 1965 [Feb. 5, 1964], No. 4010/65. Heading B6B. A web W is fed on to a roll 10 supported on driven rollers 11, 12, passing between the drum 12 and the roll after being, longitudinally slit by slitter knives and drums 17, 18. Before roaching the roll 10, the web passes through the nip N between the drum 12 and a lay-on roller 19 urged against the drum 12 by a piston-andcylinder loader 21. The web passes round an arc of the roller 19 before reaching the nip N. The presence of air between the web and the drum 12 is prevented by the roller 19. In another form, Fig; 2, (not shown), a slitter 34 co-operates directly with the lay-on roller 31. The invention may be applied to a single-drum winder, Fig. 4, not shown.
