Abstract
1,081,487. Electric cables. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 7, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963], No. 40192/63. Heading H1A. The rope shown is intended to be used in a mine cage hoist and comprises a central conductor 11 which may be nickel surrounded by a fibre-glass sleeve 12 and a metal braid 15, a close coiled stainless steel spring 13 to protect the conductor from crushing and a locked coil wire sheath 14a, 14b, 14c. This sheath has an inner layer 14a of circular section wire strands, a second layer 14b of circular section strands separated by fitting spacer strands and a third layer 14c of interlocking strands. The close coiled spring may be replaced by a tape. In the arrangement of Fig. 2, not shown, surrounding the conductor and beneath the sheath are alternate layers of glass fibre braid and a reinforcing material such as a polyimide.
