Abstract
946,599. Coaxial cables. STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd. May 17, 1962 [June 6, 1961; Sept. 11, 1961], Nos. 20435/61 and 32570/61. Heading H1A. A flexible cable comprising at least one core conductor 2, a plurality of insulators 4, e.g. in the form of ceramic beads loosely positioned in spaced relation thereon, a plurality of metallic spacing members 6, of less diameter than the insulators, secured on the core and leaving the insulators limited freedom of movement along the core between the spacing members, and a metallic sheath 8. A load bearing stranded metallic casing 18 may be laid over the sheath 8. The core may consist of a number of additional conductors 22, Fig. 2 (not shown), arranged in parallel and in touching relationship with each other and with the sheath by means of slotted beads 4 threaded over the conductors, and additional starshaped insulators 26. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the ceramic beads are provided with radial open slots in which are positioned the additional conductors, each fitted with beads 38 which in turn are fitted over long spacing ferrules 6. A further arrangement is described (Fig. 6, not shown-) wherein a small spacing ferrule 66 is used. In Fig. 5 (not shown), a plurality of cables according to the invention is grouped around a flexible hose 50 to form a cable construction able to withstand high external pressure, the cables being encased in a load-bearing casing 54 and a sheath 56.
