Abstract

Two or more yarns of man-made e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, rayon or nylon, filaments of denier greater than ten are intertwisted to form a cord which is hot-stretched to increase its tensile modulus and resistance to buckling under an axial compression load. The stretching process, at a temperature approaching the melting point of the filaments, may be effected in a fluid bed such as is described in Specification 885,513.
