Abstract

[Also in Division F2] In a valve for taking samples of hydraulic fluid from a high pressure hydraulic system e.g. at about 3, 000 Ibs/sq. in., contamination of the fluid by the valve is avoided by using a closure 19 which is pivotable on a spindle 20, which is rotated against a light spring 22 by a screwdriver from outside the valve, out of engagement with seat 23 which is preferably sited on the downstream side of a screw threaded plug 17 inserted in a close fitting plain cylindrical bore in a plug 14 to form a labyrinth restrictor which is removable through opening 15. In an alternative embodiment Figs. 4, 5 and 6 (not shown) the restrictor plug (31) is directly attached by a stem to a screw threaded member closing the opening (15) and the seat comprises a disc (32) urged by a spring against a circlip surrounding the outlet bore and provided with apertures (36) which are obturated by a plug (34) screw threaded into the valve body to abut the disc (32) on the outlet side thereof. Both embodiments are provided with outlet spouts and a detachable cover 25 and the engaging closure and seat surfaces are optically flat and may have a deposited layer of chrome which. may also be applied to the labyrinth passages of plugs 14 and 17 which may alternatively be formed of chrome steel.
