Abstract

1,079,685. Chain terisioners. AMF INTERNATIONAL Ltd. March 31, 1964 [April 5, 1963], No. 13705/63. Heading F2Q. A chain tensioning device comprises an arm 14 pivoted on a pin 16 and carrying a roller 36 which is urged into engagement with a chain 2 by a slider bar 20 carrying pivoted end shoes 32 which are adapted to slide on roughened surfaces 34, 35 provided on the arm 14 and an adjustably fixed arm 8 respectively. The weight of the bar 20 provides the tensioning force. A resilient mounting bracket 12 at the lower end of the arm 8 allows the latter to move slightly in response to phases of slackness and tightness of the chain. The tension may be released by supporting the slider bar 20 on a pin 28 which may be put in any one of a number of holes 30 in the arm 8. In a horizontal arrangement, a spring 76 acts to bias a slider bar 20a.
