Abstract

An open-mesh fabric for use in the drier section of a papermaking machine is woven with a leno weave from continuous filament nylon, polyester, acrylic, or glass yarns. The weave may be simple gauze; or one warp yarn may cross over two plain-woven warp yarns; or each leno shed may embrace two weft picks, the crossing points of adjacent leno pairs being staggered. It is stated that spun yarns of cellulose, protein, or asbestos may be used. The fabric may be woven endless.
