Abstract

1,078,822. Vehicle doors. H. MARSH. April 2, 1964 [April 2, 1963], No. 13094/63. Addition to 1,017,394. Heading B7J. [Also in Division E2] A " flush-type " sliding door 10, Figs. 1 and 2, is hinged at the edge, which trails during the opening of the door, to a vertical pillar 16 having secured thereto at its base a crank arm 18 hinged on a vertical axis to a platform 20 slidable along the bottom sill 54 of the door opening, the arm 18 being rigid with a vertical spindle 38 rotatable in a roller bearing 40 and having secured thereto a horizontal plate 48. The underside of the plate 48 is provided with a cam groove 50, Fig. 4, which is engageable with a vertical stud 52 fixed on the sill 54, so that after the door has been initially pivoted about the pillar to remove the leading edge of the door from a reveal 34 and slid to the left in Fig. 1, the cam groove coacts with the stud to cause the plate 48 and arm 18 to pivot and to move the trailing edge of the door outwardly of the opening. The platform is supported on the sill 54 by a wheel 24 and a ball race 44, 46, 42. The plate 48 is locked in the door-open position of the arm 18 by a dog 62, on a locking plate 56 pivoted to the platform 20, engaging in an indent 64 in the plate 48. The locking plate is under the urge of a spring 66 and is pivotable to release the dog from the indent when the stud 52 engages a cam edge 68 on the locking plate during sliding movement of the door to the closed position.
