Abstract

895,370. Doors for passenger vehicles. SCHIMEK, A. F. Sept. 16, 1960 [Sept. 28, 1958], No. 31989/60. Class 103(2). [Also in Group XXV] A mounting for a vehicle door comprises at least one first track 18 arranged to be secured across a door frame 12, at least one second track 22 arranged to be secured across the door, and a pair of pivot arms 24, 26 associated with each pair of tracks, each arm having one end pivotally and slidably engaged in one of the tracks and the other end pivotally fixed in the other track, to afford relative lateral and axial movement of the tracks. During opening movement the door pivots from the closed position, shown in solid lines in Fig. 2, to an intermediate position, shown in dotted lines, and then slides parallel to the door opening until the slidable pivots 34, 40 have travelled to the opposite ends of their respective tracks, means (see below) being provided to prevent sliding of the pivots 34, 40 during the pivotal movement. The pivot 40 (which is substantially identical with pivot 34) comprises a boss formed at the end of the pivot arm 26 pivoted on a pin 82 (Fig. 6) in a sliding carriage 42 mounted on rollers 92, 94 (Fig. 7) in the track 18. The boss is provided with a segmental slot 95 which slidably receives a lip flange 62 of the track and prevents pivotal movement of the boss except when it is in registration with a recess 64 in the flange, sliding being impossible when the boss has turned in this recess to bring the slot 95 out of alignment with the flange. To limit the outward pivotal movement of the arm to the precise amount required to bring the slot 95 into alignment with the flange 62 a stop lug 102 is formed on the boss to abut the rear wall of the carriage 42. A modified pivot is described (Fig. 12, not shown) in which the arm 26, instead of being provided with the boss 40, is formed with a depending pivot pin which slides in a track set in a recess in the floor. A door is preferably mounted by two sets of pivot arms and tracks at the top and bottom respectively, one of the sets being modified, if desired, by dispensing with the pivot arm 26 and thus making the track 18 across the door frame unnecessary.
