832,108. Seats for vehicles. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Sept. 11, 1957 [Sept. 14, 1956], No. 28664/57. Class 103(2) [Also in Group XXV] The hinged back 7 of a seat for a motor vehicle, e.g. a station wagon, has a hinge member 11 with projections 14, 15, each supported by one end in a single slot 16 in a guide member 12 and arranged to become successive axes of rotation so that as the seat back is swung between a substantially vertical position (Fig. 1) and a horizontal position (Fig. 5) the lowest point 9 travels in a substantially linear direction. The back swings first about the projection 14 and while the projection 15 moves to the position 15<SP>1</SP> the point 9 takes the path 19-20. The swinging is then completed by movement about the projection 15 until the projection 14 reaches the point 141, the point 9 then describing the path 20-8. In its horizontal position the seat back closely abuts the front edge 8 of the intermediate bottom 5 of the vehicle and remains clear of the plate 2 while being swung.
