Abstract

1,078,684. Exercising apparatus. G. CARNIELLI. Sept. 9, 1964 [Sept. 10, 1963], No. 36896/64. Heading A6M. The friction hinges of a rowing machine comprise a disc 19 which is clamped with adjustable pressure between, and moved against the friction of, two stationary discs 31, 10, and is provided with ratchet teeth on its rim 21 which is engaged by a pawl 22 moved by the rowing lever 14 over the teeth during a forward stroke but engages the teeth during a pulling stroke. Adjustable pressure between the discs is effected by a nut 16 which applies pressure to the upper disc 31 through a sleeve 27, the shaft 15 carrying the sleeve 27 and disc 31 being squared, or other than round to prevent said sleeve and disc rotating thereon. The pawl 22 is carried by the end of the rowing lever 14 which is pivoted about the sleeve 27.
