Abstract

A core of Ni which may be a sheet, optionally perforated coated with Ir or Pt-Ir alloy, e.g. in ratio 70-30, is used as anode in the electrolysis of water, typically as aqueous KOH solution, to produce oxygen. The coating is applied by painting the core with a solution of the metal chlorides in an organic vehicle and firing at 500 DEG C. Comparison electrodes of Ti coated with Ir and 70-30 Pt-Ir alloy are referred to and are prepared as for the Ni core electrodes.
