Abstract

1435130 Electrolytic bi-polar filter press cells BASF WYANDOTTE CORP 6 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 27019/73 Heading C7B A bi-polar electrolytic filter press cell includes a bi-polar electrode comprising a valve metal anode component 1 and a ferrous metal cathode component 6, these components being secured together by a bolt 5 received through a perforation in one of the electrode components, with the bolt being formed of the material of the electrode component through which it extends, and being threadedly connected in an opening in the other electrode component, the threads of the bolt and of the opening in the other electrode component being metal plated such that the threads formed of valve metal are plated with a platinum group metal 3, as shown, and the threads formed of ferrous metal are plated with Au, Ag or Cu 4, as shown, optionally over an initial Ni coating The electrode components may be provided with bosses 2 and 7 as shown, welded to the respective electrode component and formed of a similar metal to that of the component to which it is welded. The cell may be used in the electrolysis of aqueous alkali metal chloride.
