Abstract

1435129 Electrolytic filter press cells BASF WYANDOTTE CORP 6 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 27018/73 Heading C7B An electrolytic filter press cell e.g. for the production of chlorine and A.M.OH from aqueous AMC1 solution, comprises a sequence of cell compartments each containing an anode 1, e.g. of valve metal e.g. of expanded Ti, or of Ti alloyed with A, V, Pd, Cr or Sn, preferably coated with a Pt group metal or alloy and a cathode 3 e.g. of Fe or steel; adjacent cell compartments being separated from each other by an electrically, inactive barrier member 2, the cathode 3 and anode 1 of adjacent compartments being separated from each other by an electrically inactive barrier member 2, e.g. of rubber, polypropylene or Teflon (RTM); the cathode 3 and anode I of adjacent compartments being electrically connected to each other via bosses 4 and 5 provided on each electrode respectively; each boss being provided with a channel in which an O-ring 6, 6a or 7, 7a is positioned to lie between the respective boss and the barrier member 3; and mechanical connection between the bosses being provided by a bolt 20 received through an aperture 22 in one boss and threadedly engaging the other boss.
