Abstract

1,077,697. Coating apparatus. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY. March 11, 1965 [March 12, 1964], No. 10436/65. Heading B2L. [Also in Division F2] A workpiece holder 3 is swung to and fro on a guide arm 5 in front of an electrospraying device 2 and is adapted to be given timed stepwise radial movement along the guide arm 5 by an endless screw 6. The swinging or alternating rotary motion of the guide arm 5 is obtained directly from the output gear segment 117, of a mechanism 117-101, which is as described in Specification No. 1,064,355 whose input 101 is driven through an overloadrelease cotter-coupling 19 from an electric motor. The device may be used for electrostatic spraying of toxic liquids and materials such as plutonium for which purpose it is mounted within the wall 1 of a sealed enclosure. The guide arm 5 is fast on a tube 9, passing through the enclosure wall 1, and secured outside the wall at 18 to the gear segment 117. The tube 9 runs in ball bearings 10, 11, 12 and is sealed relative to the enclosure 1 by an oil bath 13 enclosed between two annular packing rings or gaskets 14, 15 and replenishable through a screwed-plug hole 16. The screw 6 is driven through bevel gears 22. 21, a shaft 20 within the tube 9, meshing gears 28, 24-36, and a reversible ratchet mechanism 33-29 whose pivoted pawl 29 has a peg 28 radially following a groove 27 in a cam plate 26. The cam plate 26 is fast on an alternating rotary motion shaft 103 of the mechanism 117-101 of Specification No. 9313/65. The pawl 29 is pivoted about the axis of two integral, opposite direction ratchets 33, 34 and has two sprung teeth 32 selectively engageable with a respective one of the ratchets 33, 34. A gear 35 fast with the ratchets 33, 34 meshes with gear 36. The ratchets 33, 34 are advanced one step in each swing of the arm 5.
