Abstract

1,077,642. Gun turrets. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. Feb. 28, 1966 [March 11, 1965], No. 8630/66. Heading F3C. A gun turret or cupola 1 for an automatic weapon 2 is provided with a weapon shield 3 movable in a vertical plane relatively to the turret or cupola. A sealing assembly comprising a slide 7 and a sealing bar 14 pivoted thereon co-operates with the shield 3, the sealing assembly being resiliently urged as by a spring (15, Fig. 3, not shown) into engagement with the turret or cupola 1. The sealing bar 14 is formed at its ends with arcuate plates 16 carrying pins 17 which pins co-operate with slots 18 in a pair of side walls 10. At large angles of elevation of the automatic gun 2 the pins 17 engage and are entrained by a spring-loaded member 19 of the shield 3 such that the slide 7 and sealing bar then pivot downwardly with the shield. Seals are provided between the moving and stationary parts of the turret and shield, the seals consisting of rubber, plastics material or felt strips. An opening 5 is formed in the shield for the ejection of spent cartridges.
