Abstract
1289248 Welding by pressure OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc 3 May 1971 12632/71 Heading B3R [Also in Division B8] Studs 23, Fig. 3, are oriented by falling down a shoot 17 flat end first. A surface 29 is shaped to be complementary to the end 30 of a stud so that as a stud is pushed out over the edge 27 it is able to fall flat end first down the shoot 17 if the flat end is leading. If the end 30 is leading the stud cannot pivot about the edge 27 and the end 30 rides up a ramp 33 until the flat end clears the edge 27 when the stud again falls flat end first down the shoot. A pin 34 prevents studs being forced back up the shoot 17. From the shoot 17, Fig. 1, the studs pass to an escapement mechanism 18 from which they are pneumatically propelled through a tube 19 to a gun 20. In the escapement mechanism 18, Fig. 6, the studs fall one at a time into a recess 45 in a pneumatically operated piston 44 which moves them into alignment with a feed part 19 through which they are ejected.
