Abstract

1,124,890. Machine guns. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 18 Nov., 1966 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 51840/66. Heading F3C. A machine gun 1 is provided with a hinged cover 5 which masks the cartridge feed mechanism 2, the cover being provided with means for holding the cover in any one of a plurality of positions or any position within its range of movement. The means may comprise a series of interleaved discs urged together by a plurality of cup springs, alternate discs being connected to the cover and the body of the weapon to frictionally hold the cover in an open position (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). Alternatively, a series of teeth may be provided on a member connected to the body of the weapon, which teeth co-operate with corresponding grooves in a member connected to the cover to hold the cover in a plurality of predetermined open positions, the two members being urged together by a series of cup springs (Figs. 4 to 8, not shown).
