Abstract

1,077,262. Knitting machines. BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 8, 1964 [April 17, 1963], No. 15092/63. Heading D1C. A circular knitting machine having a welt dial 5 with welt hooks 18 acutated by a stationary cam plate 6 is provided with a pair of yarn cutting devices arranged above and below the welt hooks respectively. These devices comprise circular cutters 19, 20 concentric and rotating with the dial 5 and cooperating with stationary cutter blades 22 and 25 (see also Fig. 3) respectively. The blades 22 and 25 can be raised successively out of action by a Bowden cable 30 as desired, the cutter 25 being used during the welt formation, so as to leave the welt hooks free for operation, whilst the cutter 22 is used during normal knitting when these operations involve yarnchanging or splicing. Both cutter blades 22 and 25 may be lifted clear when no yarnchanging or splicing is required to reduce wear on the cutting elements. A suction device is provided for holding the inoperative yarns and for sucking away the cut ends. When cutter 22 is lowered a cam plate 28 is also lowered to engage and retract any welt hook which is out.
