Bakers' ovens.-In a travelling-sole oven, the return run of the sole is supported by endless chains, which are positively driven at the same speed as the sole. The sole comprises a number of transverse sections, each of which consists of a plate of small size and light weight, and it is preferably divided into longitudinal sections which can be driven separately or all together. Fig. 1<a> shows the rear end of an oven with a travelling sole 14 supported on rails 16 and driven by sprocket-wheels 14<a>. The sole is formed by plates 18, Fig. 4, of smaller size and lighter weight than is customary, and its return run is supported by chains 19 on tracks 29, sprockets 20, and guidewheels 33. The wheels 14<a>, 20 are driven at the same peripheral speed by bevel-gearing and an adjustable vertical shaft at the side of the oven. The sole shown in Fig. 4 has three distinct sections 34, 35, 36, each mounted as described, and driven by gearing 37, 39, 40. The gearing 37 drives the spindle 22 and the section 34; the gearing 39 drives the spindle 22a and the section 35, and the gearing 40 drives the sleeve 22b and the section 36. Clutches enable the spindles and sleeves to be connected so that all three soles may be driven at the same speed from the gearing 37.
