Abstract

1,076,381. Selective signalling. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 21, 1966 [Jan. 21, 1965], No. 2733/65. Heading G4H. The diameter of a rotating shaft is measured by means of a roller which contacts the periphery of the shaft and generates a train of pulses as it rotates, the pulses being supplied to a counter by way of a gate which is open during one revolution of the shaft. The counter may be calibrated to indicate the shaft diameter directly. The pulse generating means may be a disc which is sensed by a photo-cell, a magnetic transducer or an electrical contact. The means for producing the gate-opening signal may be a contact which is closed for one revolution of the shaft or a disc which supplies pulses to a further counter, the output of which remains on until a number of pulses corresponding to one revolution of the shaft has been counted.
