Abstract

1310582 Measuring frequency J E READ 24 March 1970 14358/70 Heading G4H Recognition of the frequency of an input signal is achieved by applying the A.C. input signal via terminal 1 to amplifier 2 which converts it to a series of pulses. These pulses pass through a gate 3 which is controlled by means of a clock 4 so that pulses are only passed thr ough the gate for a preset period. The pulses then pass through a pulse divider 6 and are recorded in a binary counter 7. At the end of the timing period, gates 16 to 19 are enabled, these gates acting as a decoder unit. If the count stored by the counter corresponds to a binary 4, 5, 6, 7 then a signal is stored on the appropriate one of memory 20 to 23. These memories in turn control control switches 11. A lockout device 24 is provided to inhibit the operation of the clock for a period after decoding of the counters so that only one frequency measurement is made during the period in which a continuous signal is detected by the apparatus. The apparatus may be used for controlling the operation of a toy or model. The incident signal may be a sound of a given frequency an electrical signal detected by an induction coil.
