Abstract

978,045. Photo-electric measurement of speed. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 28, 1961 [April 1, 1960], No. 11500/60. Heading G1A. [Also in Divisions G5 and H3] An electrical control circuit comprises means for generating pulses of frequency dependent upon the speed of a member, means deriving a voltage dependent upon the frequency, means for generating a control signal on said voltage reaching a predetermined value, arid means for inhibiting production of further control signals until the circuit has been reset. A magnetic tape 1, accelerated by the take up spool rotates a disc 3 which modulates light from a lamp 5 to a phototransistor 6 producing pulses with a speed-dependent repetition frequency. The pulses are rendered of constant amplitude and width by a monostable transistor multivibrator 7 and an integrating circuit, 8, 9 produces a voltage dependent upon their frequency. When this voltage reaches a predetermined value, a transistor in circuit 10 conducts and energizes a relay 11 to bring a capstan into contact with tape 1 and to send a signal to bias one of the transistors of multivibrator 7 to keep relay 11 energized until condenser 9 is discharged in a reset operation.
